Hi Thomas,
Many thanks for the CD. This is indeed a surprise, as I only expected you to send the reviews you had been receiving!
I am listening to it as I type this message. It is an especially eye-catching booklet displaying the beautiful artwork behind the neck and pegbox of the Baroque lute. A side the audience rarely sees!
The booklet opens immediately to the 'play-list'. A feature often left to the latter pages, or the back-cover. This has been tastefully reserved for a colourful photograph of the instruments used in the making of this CD.
The opening tracks seemed a little 'jangly'. Either because of nerves as the recording commenced, occasionally tripping on a note here and there. However, I realise how difficult the Baroque lute is to master. A cumbersome beast and with so many strings to play or damp during the intricate counterpoint of this era.
As the CD progressed I became totally comfortable with the repertoire, listening to the wonderfully teasing melodies from obscure (to me) composers. The works by Reusner and Kuhnel were particularly appealing to me. That is not to say the other composers were less interesting. There are so many styles presented on this CD, Forty-one tracks! This is enough to fill anyone's Christmas wish-list!
This is a CD I will play over again and I can recommend it as a positive example of there being so much more quality music written for the Baroque lute than Bach or Weiss.
Many thanks again and Well done! Ron Fletcher (UK)
